Over
my lifetime, I
have spent several million dollars on my
own home and office purchase and remodeling projects. I
began my home design and remodeling journey when I bought
my first house when I was 21. I was then a tax
accountant for a Big 8 CPA firm (then called Touche
Ross & Co CPAs now Deloite & Touche) and purchased
a beautiful two story brick home in East Grand Rapids where
I lived. I tore out and completely replaced two bathrooms,
an old octopus style heating system, my entire kitchen
and did extensive floor, woodworking and other major remodeling.
At age
25, I moved back to Ann Arbor and purchased my second house
and literally gutted it down to the 2x4 frame. I removed
all electrical, plumbing, plaster, heating system, windows,
doors and began to rebuild this house from the ground up
all by myself. I learned a lot in the process and gained
the knowledge, skills and the confidence to tackle most any
project from then on.
Occasionally
I accepted work from others and my first paid assignment
came when I was 26 when I was hired to build a sauna in the
home of Ron Wiser who formed McKinley Associates, Inc. in
Ann Arbor.
Even though
I spent 20 years as a successful certified financial
planner and securities principal, I was always more
interested in my own real estate projects and have always had
my hands in some kind of construction activity. Even my focus
as a financial planner was specialized in the formation,
analysis and representation of real estate investment projects.
In 1989,
I retired as a successful certified financial planner
(CFP) and securities principal and have
constantly been remodeling homes. My love and passion
is in creating nurturing space, yet I have never made that
a full time business opportunity but rather my own investment
activity.

MY
HOME INSPECTION CAREER
I believe
that my over 30 years of real estate investment,
design, remodeling and construction experience can
be of significant benefit to anyone who would like to engage
me as a home inspector.
Because
I have experienced the tricks of the trade by taking apart
and rebuilding my own homes, I know how various contractors
cover up significant problems. I also understand how homeowners
try to do the same and it is both a skill and an
art when looking at a prospective home to determine its true
condition and future investment potential and what it will take to
either recover its necessary utility or to expand upon its
potential investment value.
If it wasn't
for my passion for real estate projects (particularly in
the remodeling area), you wouldn't find me in this industry.
If it wasn't for my interest in counseling people in a professional
capacity, I wouldn't have decided to make home inspection
my full time activity. I immensely enjoy working with people
and in trying to find ways to help them through my expertise.
It provides me with an immeasurable amount of satisfaction.
WHAT'S
IN THIS FOR YOU?
So
what does it cost for me to perform your home inspection? No
more than any other Professional Home Inspector and in
the end, hopefully, a substantial amount less.
What
would it cost to utilize another home inspector instead
of me? It could be a lot, however, you will never
know unless we go through a scheduled half day inspection.
Only then will you realize that all it takes is for me
to share with you one really good idea or to find just
one serious flaw in the home you are considering to make
our relationship worth while.
Please
rest assured that I will examine your prospective home and
all of its systems in the most comprehensive manner. I will
look at every system and try to locate any typical problems
and determine remaining useful life. Any problems that are
identified will be included in my thorough and extensive
home inspection report.
But
where I might come up with something that is outside of
the scope of a normal home inspection will be provided
during our personal consultation after the inspection has
been completed.
IT
IS HERE where I will render
my personal judgment and provide you with over 30
years of home remodeling ideas and concepts that
might make a major difference to you over time.
